Scholar's Challenge and Bowl
The Scholar's Challenge, in my opinion, is the hardest event of the four and preparing for indeed is a real challenge. The best way to prepare for the challenge and the bowl is the way I wanted to prepare for Barcelona, but then our team split up cuz of me not getting the visa.
My idea was to divide the six subjects areas amongst the three of us, and each member only researches on the subjects they excel in most. Each teammate shall do their research independently in as much detail as possible, when all research is done, you exchange your notes that you made with your other teammates and get it photocopied perhaps. This way a lot of your time will be save and you will do your studying more efficently as it reduces stress of overwork.
When I went to the globals, it became obvious that I am not the one to come up with this Idea, my teammates were of a school called Merrifield College, the school prepared those students, and thise students were the ones who did best in all fields, the school told them to research in this way, and that's why they excelled.
The general Idea for preperation of all subjects is the same, but while doing research there is a way to do every subject more efficiently, this is some stuff only someone who has done the WSC completely once knows about.
Art and Music.
For the arts, you must view all of the paintings and listen to all of the Music several times, you need to memorise the name of each painting and song and know their artist/singer, not learning these will lead to heavy regret during the bowl and the challenge. See how each work relates to the theme, how does it symbolise a world on the Margins.
You should try to understand what mindset the artist or singer was in during the time the artist was in during the time their work was created. Learn a bit about each artist's personality and types of work they do and how were they treated during the time.
Literature
The way to study Literature is very similar to that of the arts, familiarise yourself with the poems and the poets. Link it to the theme and see if there are any different poems that have the same underlying meaning, or perhaps the complete opposite. Its not the story in the works you need to know, what you need to know is about what in the story is related to one of the subjects and their sub-themes.
Science, History, Social Studies, and the Special Area.
Other than the first two mentioned subjecteds the way of preparation is the same for these remaining onea and is fairly simple, for these, you must understand all the meanings of the given terms and other than that you need to have common sense, ability to think logically and compare the the terms of one subject to those of the others, see what things are similar and how they may be connected. If you are looking at terms like a disease or award, you should check if anyone that we learned about in the course was diagosed wth that disease or won that award. this could form questions in a bowl.
The bowl requires a lot of collaboration so make sure you are not in a quarell amongst your team or you shall suffer. Discuss before choosing an answer and know who on your team is most reliable with the clicker, you can practice for that by using a TV remote or AC remote assign a button to a letter, read aloud questions or display them on a screen and see who presses the correct button most quickly, instead of asking you could even say a letter and give 3 or 5 seconds or say a letter then change it like the WSC does in the pwaactice.
